Our wedding day takes place on Saturday 30th May 2026 in two venues: St Olave’s Church for the wedding ceremony and Merchant Adventurers’ Hall for the Wedding Breakfast and Evening Reception. You can find details about the venues below.

St Olave’s Church

St Olave’s Church, Marygate, York YO30 7DR

St Olave’s Church was founded by Siward, Earl of Northumbria in the 11th Century. Olave is the Old English Spelling of Olaf, after the saint to whom the church is dedicated. St Olaf was a warrior King of Norway who converted Norway to Christianity.

After the Norman conquest, the church was given to Benedictine monks who built the neighbouring St Mary’s Abbey, one of the greatest abbeys in medieval England.

The church was used as a gun platform at the seige of York during the Civil War in 1644 and consequently damaged. After being rebuilt in the 18th Century and despite being extended in the 19th Century using magnesium limestone, some original medieval stone can still be seen in the tower structure.

Merchant Adventurers’ Hall

Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, Fossgate, York YO1 7XD

The Merchant Adventurers’ Hall is one of the finest original medieval guild halls in the world. The guild (or trading association) was founded in the 14th Century by a religious fraternity and the hall was built as a location for trade, meetings and serving the poor.

Click here to visit the Merchant Adenturers’ Hall website.

Access to the hall is on Fossgate (see photo). Note that the entrance on Piccadilly will be closed.

We will have a guide to assist those who don’t know York city centre very well as they walk from the church to the reception venue. A walking map is also provided below and will be available at the church on the day.

We can also provide transport for those who need it. Please let us know how we can help with accessibility.

Important note: Stiletto heels (heels with a size smaller than a 5p coin or 18mm or 11/16’th inch) are not permitted in the hall in order to protect the ancient floors.

Heel protectors can be supplied for those whose outfits can only be best served by narrow heels.
